How to fit an Electric Secondary Park Brake

Fitting Instructions

1. Ensure you are wearing eye and hand protection when conducting any potentially dangerous parts of this operation.

2. Mount the control module under the bonnet and connect the wiring harness.

3. When running wires, ensure they are secured away from heat sources and moving parts.

4. Run the positive and negative wires to the battery.

5. Feed the switch wiring plug, ACC and LED- Vehicle handbrake light wire through the firewall grommet into the vehicle.

6. For the auto engagement function, connect the red ACC wire to the solid green wire on the wiring plug to the ignition switch.

7. Remove the dash cluster and locate the same colour wire as above and confirm using a multimeter.

8. Connect the LED- Vehicle Handbrake dash light wire to this wire.

9. Remove the blanking plate and replace with switch provided. Plug the wire into the switch.

10. Raise the vehicle up and support safely. Remove the rear wheels.

11. Run the ESPB caliper wires along the chassis rail, down to the diff and out to each caliper.

12. Clamp the flexible brake hoses to minimise fluid loss.

13. Remove the OE calipers and replace with ESPB calipers using the original pads.

14. Bleed the brake system, then test drive to ensure braking system performs as expected.

15. Turn off ignition and check that the ESPB activates, and the hand brake warning light is on while the OE hand brake is off.

Activating ESPB Service Mode:

1. Turn ignition on.
a. Push in ESPB switch (Press to Turn off the Electric Park Brake) continuously for 15-20 seconds. (Note: Aim for 17 seconds as ideal duration)
b. Release the button fully after the 15-20 seconds, then push in (press) the ESPB switch within 1 second of release.
c. The ESPB calipers should now be releasing, and the electric motor will stop once it’s wound back as far as it can go.

2. ESPB calipers will now be in service mode to change the rear brake pads.

3. Ignition can now be turned off.
Note: If ESPB calipers have not wound back, repeat the process as it may be a timing issue when pushing/releasing the switch.

Working whilst in ESPB Service Mode:

1. You will now need to manually push the caliper pistons back. This is no different to performing a brake pad change on a standard caliper.

2. Once Brake Pads have been changed, pump up the brake pedal.

Deactivating ESPB Service Mode:

1. Turn ignition on.
a. Pull back switch (pull to release electric park brake) continuously for 5 seconds.
b. Calipers activated and will find their natural position.

2. Test the ESPB motors will self-wind in and out several times before finding their natural position
